We visited some communities in Northern Manitoba this summer, recorders in hand.
There’s a certain resiliency needed to live in the north. From fires to floods to frequent evacuations, these communities are populated by fighters.
Here, the train is a lifeline and when it doesn’t come, people scramble for the basics of life while reflecting on lost ways and their culture.
Edmonton and Calgary
Challenge for Change stepped off the train to work with two tireless organizations that are making a difference in their communities: Ribbon Rouge and Gradual Rising of Women (G.R.O.W.).
They use personal stories and conversation to build connections, empower each other and strengthen relationships.
We also listened in on some everyday chats that fill a barber shop.
